The Writer’s Edge
2004
Dear Editor and Publisher:
Since 1993 we have been screening book proposals for publishers. Every year there are contracts executed through the Writer's Edge. This benefits both writers and publishers. Our current reports typically list about 50 books, fiction and non-fiction.
There are now over 80 separate parties who get the reports, most of them publishing houses (mainly religious companies, with a few agents). The best promotion for the service has come from the editors themselves who feel overwhelmed with an avalanche of manuscripts to read and evaluate; a few companies have announced that they want all their unsolicited manuscripts to go through The Writer's Edge. Our screening keeps only those proposals deemed publishable and rejects the rest. In a recent year we saw 18 book contracts awarded to our writers. We’re "panning for gold" for you to find some new writers and books.
Our web site has quite a bit of information, including frequently asked questions and a list of testimonials from writers who have found a publisher through the service. You’ll see a list of the other publishers who receive our information. We would like to add your firm since we see some writers coming through that would be of interest to you. Every month we see some impressive projects in the report.
This screening service (it is not an agenting service nor a posting bulletin board) costs the writer $95 per manuscript submitted. There is no guarantee that a submission will make it to report status, but some individual feedback to the writer always follows the screening, and presently over half the submissions are finding their way to the reports. The monthly reports do not cost the publishers anything. Your only obligation would be to pursue appealing manuscripts on your own.
If you find this program useful for your company, I invite you indicate your interest in an email response. We do not send the reports to any editor or publisher who does not request them, though anyone can see most of the reports on our web site. At your request we can limit your selected items to fiction books, children’s, or nonfiction categories. Do let us hear from you and let us serve you.
