The Writer's Edge Book Information Form
 

You need an official application (Book Information Form) to submit a book proposal to The Writer's Edge. It will ask you questions about your book idea and your author profile . The publishers want these key facts so the form is necessary. You'll submit a paper copy of your application with a portion of your manuscript. The application form gives you all the steps and the exact address. Take a look at the "reports for publishers" and you will get an idea of what the end product looks like.

Below, you can get a word processing file to make your application easy. This means you can just type in your information on your computer, making it perfectly legible [thanks] for our use. If you use the word processing file, that will work well, or the "plain text file"--save them to a spot in your system where you can readily find them and fill them out in your word processor. We can send you by email an attached file with the Microsoft Word Book Information Form. Or you can download the file from this page. (Note: For previously published books, now out of print, you can enter your data
 on a special form (not for self-published books).

Mailing:  The Book Information Form provides the address at the top to send your material. Use ordinary mail for best delivery. (Express mail offers no benefit to you and sometimes actually takes longer since it requires a signature and an open Post Office. Our staff will often pick up mail from the PO box after hours.) After a few days, check our "tracking" feature to confirm arrival. See the web site home page, lower left. It should show up after a week or 10 days. This means we received your entry and a reviewer has been assigned to it.

All accepted entries will be reported on paper to the participating publishers. In addition, we will post for five years on our web site the same entries, open to the publishers and other interested parties, unless you specifically refuse permission. Some writers want the public visibility and some do not. Check no if you don’t. You can see what the publishers see about your work on the web site. But if you decline here for web posting, you’ll need to request a printout or email display of your listing.

___a one-page synopsis if your manuscript is fiction
___complete contents pages with short descriptions of each chapter, if it is nonfiction
___$95 fee.  This fee covers processing and the reviewing of your materials and cannot be refunded.
___Three sample chapters of your manuscript, including chapter one. Please do not send entire manuscript; we will review only three chapters.
___Self-addressed, stamped business-sized envelope for reply. No manuscripts will be returned; do not send your only copy!

You will receive the results of our evaluation in six to eight weeks. While there is no guarantee of acceptance, if our reviewers find your manuscript unsuitable for publishing, you will receive a brief letter of counsel and suggestion. In that case your manuscript information will not appear in The Writer’s Edge listing sent to publishers but alternate strategies will be available to you. The Writer’s Edge serves both writers and publishers and seeks to raise the level of Christian publishing in both. If, in our reviewers’ judgment, your manuscript passes the basic criteria of “publishing potential,” information about its content, category, and format, along with author information, will be included on the listing, which is distributed at the end of each month. Currently, less than 60% of the submitted manuscripts are accepted for the Writer’s Edge monthly report.
